Turner’s kids’ channels have achieved best performance yet in 2018’s annual youth brand preference and consumer behaviour survey.
[Johannesburg, SA]: South Africa’s youth are becoming more discerning by the day; they know what they like, how they like it and when they like it – according to the Sunday Times Generation Next 2018 Survey. In partnership with leading Youth Market Specialist, HDI Marketers, the survey bolstered into its 14th year, revealing the country’s favourite brands amongst the youth of South Africa.
Turner is thrilled to announce that, once again, its top kids’ entertainment brands, Cartoon Network and Boomerang, were a cut above the rest in terms of popularity and hold on to some of the coolest top spots. Cartoon Network carried its winning streak from 2017 as the #1 ‘Coolest Kids TV Channel’ in the country, while retaining its #2 spot in the overall ‘Coolest TV Channel’ category for the third year in a row.
2018 has been a stellar year for Turner, achieving its highest performance ever in the leading annual youth brand preference and consumer behaviour survey. Cartoon Network and Boomerang scooped the four top spots in the ‘Coolest Cartoon Shows’ category! Cartoon Network’s The Regular Show took the top spot, with, Boomerang’s The Tom & Jerry Show and Mr. Bean: The Animated Series coming in at #2 and #3 respectively; and Cartoon Network’s Teen Titans Go! in 4th place.
Not only did Turner’s kids’ channels dominate the ‘Coolest Cartoon Show’ category, but also took four out of the 10 top spots in the ‘Coolest Animated Brand or Entertainment Characters’ category with Boomerang’s famous cat and mouse frenemies, Tom & Jerry, again being voted #1, a spot it has held since 2016!.

With a sample of more than 12 000 youths around the country, across 74 categories, the survey is considered a leading barometer of what appeals to South Africa’s kids, teens and young adults, and really allows brands to understand where they are at in the minds of SA’s youth in this highly competitive market.
